Oh My, My

It has been awhile!! I suppose when you go back and read this forever from now you are going to wonder what the heck was going on...Well, there was a lot going on and I'll have to fill you in from a few different blog entries.

So, Grandma Terri was in town for a little visit. Our main goal was to find as many fun things for us to do in Austin as possible. We found lots of fun play centers for kids...They have the inflatable playlands and some places that just have little play areas dedicated to toddlers. We found a few that we and especially Mr. Oliver loved!! There was one place that we accidentally drove 45 minutes to get to...whoops!!

We also were busy with house showings!!! We were really busy cleaning and being kicked out of the house for a few hours with the dogs. We drove around and went to dog friendly restaurants.

Then Grandpa Kevin got into town. You were quite the silly boy with Grandpa. Grandpa likes to take you out to eat and watch you smile at everyone that walks by. He also taught you how to point at things for the first time during this visit. He took you to the Domain and pointed out all the cars to you and you were so excited to learn how to point at them!!

Grandpa Jeff, Grandma Cindy and GodAunt Laura arrived in town and drove straight to our house to see Oliver. They were so impressed with how much you changed and what a big boy you've become.

On Saturday we celebrated your 1st birthday at the Austin Zoo. I'm sure you will come to know this Zoo very well as you grow up, but it is a great zoo. It's in the middle of nowhere with peacocks freely running around. It may be small, but there are no lines! And better yet, they named some animal crackers after this zoo!

You had lots of friends and family show up for your party. Your Grandparents and GodAunt were there and also the Kidingers, the Rinks and the Eatons. We toured the zoo and Grandpa Kevin grilled out for everyone. Then Grandma Terri and Grandma Cindy helped get you ready to eat some cake. For the first time you had real sugar!...and mom let you have as much as you wanted (even though I cringed as you ate it)...which wasn't a whole lot. We got you your own mini cake and while you did demolish it with your hands...I don't know how interested you were in eating it.

After your party all of the family came back to our house and we opened presents together. GodAunt Laura won the prize for the favorite gift this year. It is still one of your favorites. She gave you a train on wheels that has a little pull string on it. It also makes animal noises.

On Sunday, we all of the family went looking at new potential homes. We looked at 4. You were such a trooper. After that we all went out to eat at a little pizza place in the neighborhood that we were looking to buy in. Then on Monday, everyone left and you were left with boring mom and dad again...But what a fun birthday weekend!!!

That is all for now. I will catch up on the rest later!

Love,

Mommy

11 and 12

Oliver's on #11 and #12 this week. His teethies are moving right along. He'll have a mouth full before we know it.

We think we know Oliver's future occupation...Escape Artist. He will break out of any given area when placed in a closed off space. He climbs/pushes the furniture out of his way to get to his target, which is generally something with wheels or a tail.

I was reading a book about body parts to Oliver yesterday. Everytime the book mentioned ears, mouth, or eyes, Oliver would touch the characters part being referenced. I figured this was just a coincidence, so I kept reading the book over and over to him. He touched the right part 8 out of 10 times...I was pretty shocked. I didn't know that was possible at this age. He'll probably forget by today???!!!

That's all for now.

Oh The Wonderful Sounds Mr. Brown Can Do

That is the name of Oliver's current favorite book. It is a Dr. Seuss board book. It goes over animal sounds like moo, buzz (bee), knock knock, splatt, boom boom (thunder)...etc... When I open the page to a cow or sheep, Oliver will try to make the animal noise himself...Let's just say he's got some work to do on matching sounds with the correct animals, but it is the cutest darn thing ever.

We moved out the abc tiles last night and replaced them with two yoga mats, so I can easily roll them up if we get a quick call to show the house...They are nice and soft with lots of padding.

Oliver's bottom teeth are surely popping through....So, that is number 9 and 10...Check and check.

He is definitely in need for another haircut. As soon as we get this house on the market, I'll take him in to a kid friendly salon to get that mullet trimmed.

He dances (rocks back and forth) to music of any kind now....Even sometimes the rhythm of books when I read to him.

He has been going after Sofia a lot more now. Sofia usually growls and has been snapping at him. It doesn't scare him. I'm trying to teach her to actually move when he starts coming after her...I think it is a dominance thing. I strongly doubt that she would ever try to hurt him though. He thinks it is all fun and games. They definitely have a love/hate relationship going on. He finds her toys and waves them in the air and squeals at her. She usually falls for the bait and plays tug-of-war with him. He laughs harder than I've ever seen him laugh when she plays back with him.

We put the house on the market on Thursday. Yay! Let's get this thing over with. The realtors said it could sit, so it could be painful.

Ok, I better go, Oliver is begging to "play" with the computer, aka put tons of fingerprints all over the screen and close the lid.

Love,

Brooke

Lady Ga Ga

Well, Oliver is still saying mama, but gaga has definitely moved up on the charts to 1st place. We listen to Lady Ga Ga in the car. He is also saying mom and I've heard dada a few times.

I've officially gone to the grocery store with baby poop smeared on my clothes without my knowing.....more times than I can count.7657rthythhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (Oliver just typed that)...A second embarrassing, but well worth the stories memory is Oliver tooting while I am on the phone....This is usually once a dayy7y766666777777777777777777777 07777777777777777 (I guess Oliver likes his 7's today).

Ok...got to make this one short...

Bye!

MAMA!

I just heard mama for the first time about 5 minutes ago...He did say it to his car though...

Fastest Baby Alive

It's been awhile! We've been busy packing up our house...again. It's been a busy week...Mom's been packing like a crazy person, Dad's been working more than ever, we met with the realtors, and Oliver is trying to escape at any given moment when no one is looking.

So, what is new with the little man? He is VERY mobile and VERY busy. He is very into cruising around the furniture right now. Everything he does he has to be standing up. Apparently, every toy is more amusing when he is standing up. He brings everything up to the ottoman with him...and I mean everything...monster trucks-check, books-check, random large baskets-check, wire toy that is the size of Oliver-check...Heaven forbid the object of interest falls over the edge of the ottoman, because Oliver will move the ottoman to get his toy.

He is into books more than ever. We have so much fun reading to him. He loves them so much that I spend a good two hours reading to him everyday. He will sit there forever and be such a patient little boy. He picks out the books and I read them. Then he will flip through the books on his own. We have several books that are about animals. His favorite animals are cows, sheep, dogs and cats. I've heard him "moo" with me twice! Does that count as a first word? I hope so, because that is adorable.

Another favorite of Oliver's are cars. Cars of any kind. He is just crazy about them. Unfortunately, they are the perfect height that is fun to purposefully lodge them under the couch only to try to get them out again two seconds later. The problem with this game is somewhere after the "sticking them under the couch is fun" comes the "this is the worst thing that could have ever happened to me protest". This is a really loud screeching noise that can often be confused with the "I'm in pain and need you help" noise. So, Mom comes running every time to come to find that the rubber golf cart toy needs a rescue mission. I'm sure it will be soon that he will figure out the whole cause and effect mess that small spaces and rolling cars don't mix.

Tonight, we went out to eat at our favorite hole in the wall Mexican restaurant (Taqueria Numero Cinco). We got there at 6:15 and I was really nervous that he was going to crank out, because it was so close to his bedtime. To my surprise, he did really well until the end...Let's just say we have Madonna to thank. This restaurant always has the T.V blaring with either foreign soccer games or techno music videos. This time Madonna was on the T.V. in one of her racy videos. But anyway, Oliver apparently loved it, because he was dancing in his highchair. He was very into Madonna and her new techno song. Britney Spears came on after Madonna, which also got high remarks from Oliver. However, Madonna was something to write home about...I wish we had the camera with us.

I weighed him today. He is hanging in there at 31 pounds. He is definitely still growing, but he is thinning out a little bit, because he is a mover right now.

He is still working on those stinking molars! Seriously, it's been forever since he started drooling for these teeth...They better be all they are cracked up to be. He has been waking up again at night a couple times...hence, another telltale sign of teethies hiding. I can see them through his gums, so I'd bet they'll be here within a couple weeks or so.

He has officially put a stop to the 2nd afternoon nap. So, he usually wakes up around 7:15-7:30 and then goes down for a nap 3-4 hours later for an hour to an hour and a half. He's been going to bed around 7:15-8.

Also, I just wanted to let you know, Oliver, that this was the week Haiti had the catastrophic earthquake hit. Over 100,000 people are expected to have passed away. It is incredibly devastating. This will be an event that will be remembered forever, and affect so many. We are very lucky to have you be safe and healthy and have the ability to feed you and keep you warm. We love you and you have made both your father and I better people, living fuller lives. Keep up the good work!

Well, that is all we have to share right now. We love you Oliver!!! You are a special little boy.

Mommy

----P.S...He is close to saying mama, he moves his mouth when I say it to him, but nothing comes out!

Oliver's First Christmas

Oliver had his first Christmas this past week! He got to spend time with many relatives and friends...Brooke's Uncle Darryl and his sons, Justin and Jon, Brooke's Uncle Brian and Aunt Debbie, David, Sharon, Sharon's family, Mike, Grandma Terri, Grandpa Kevin, Rick, Lynne, Priscilla, Josh, Gabe and Grace.

Oliver got a glimpse of his first snowfall in Illinois through the window, and he thought it was quite interesting. For the most part, it wasn't too chilly while we were here, with the exception of New Years Day. It was freezing. My dad's car said it was 11 degrees, but the windchill was freezing! Meanwhile, it was 50 degrees in Austin.

Once again, Oliver got spoiled with loads of toys, clothes and books. He had a great time playing with his new cars...which are his favorite toys. He loves pushing them across the floor and crawling after them. He also got a bag of 100 plastic balls. My dad put them in a big cardboard box and he thought it was a blast. Oliver kept kicking his feet to move the balls and he loved it when we tossed lots of balls on him.

Oliver has changed his method of crawling. Now he crawls the correct way with one leg and then puts the other leg foot down (like he is going to try to stand up)...and continues on this way. It is so adorable.

We had many new adventures with Louie this trip. Most consisted of Louie letting out a vicious growl, showing his tiny little pointy teeth and Oliver squealing with delight. Oliver chased Louie many times, but never got the gold...Thank Goodness. Louie broke Adam's skin only once this time and attacked my mom's leg when she tried to walk through the bedroom he was staying in.

We had a great New Years. We went out with friends while Oliver partied hard with Grandma Terri, Grandpa Kevin and Uncle Mike.

Oliver did well on the trip to Peoria, even though we were delayed on the runway in Dallas for over an hour...We are nervous for our flights tomorrow, because we fly through O'Hare, and we all know what happens there.....

Wish us luck!!

Rebirth of Godzilla?

That's right. There have been several sightings of a large, hairy creature frightening the dogs of 14025 Ashton Woods Circle. There have been repeated allegations of a "Godzilla act alike" climbing the towers (crib) and taking several hostages (pacifiers/stuffed animals) with him. And folks, this Godzilla seems to have no remorse. He hikes his victims (pacifiers) down from the towers (crib), lets out a horrifying roar (coo's) and shoots fire (spit) at his victims. This story is under investigation by authorities (Adam and Brooke) and we will hopefully have a positive ending to this breaking news update as soon as we can (18 years from now).

......Ok, I had my fun, now on with the news. Oliver had his 9 month check-up today (even though he is almost 10 months old). He weighs 30 pounds and is 31 inches long. He is off the charts with height, weight and head circumference....I know everyone is shocked...

The doctor said he doesn't seem to have much stranger anxiety, because most babies his age cry when he picks them up!....Yay!! He also said that he seems to be a very easy going baby....2nd Yay!! Dr. Louis made a comment on Oliver's size, stating that we might have problems buying Oliver clothes for Christmas this year....

Oliver is officially cruising. He is pulling himself up on furniture and taking a few steps to get to toys/dogs out of reach. He is still playing tug-of-war with Sofia. It keeps them both busy for about 5 minutes. Sofia realizes that Oliver has good control of his hands and will soon be capable of petting her. This is why she has already started pawing at his hands.

We had our small group over last night. We were both worried that the LOUD noise would wake him up....We were practically partying down there and he didn't wake up once!!!!!....3rd Yay!!! The other baby from small group was there and Oliver tried to steal his pacifier several times....even when he had one in his own mouth....We'll have to work on that in the future...He has no idea what is going on with the whole sharing thing now...but soon!!!

He is sleeping fantastic. We love our little man. He is so much fun. He loves laughing and playing with mommy and daddy. Peek-A-Boo is still a favorite...and of course, books....He loves to be read to.

That's about it....I've got to get in some packing while he is still asleep!!! We are in the process of clearing clutter and making our house look like it has 2 x as much space as it does! Wish me luck. By the way, we leave Wednesday, so we are up for v chat anytime before then...Probably not Tuesday, as that is the day I am usually running around with my head cut off trying to get everything together!!

Love you all!

Bye

Oliver is making new faces weekly...and new noises for that matter. Ba-Ba-Ba is still the favorite.

He now pulls himself up on his own holding onto furniture...I saw him "cruise" on the furniture the other day...

He loves his books more than before....I went to TJ Max the other day to buy some more, because I am so sick of reading the same ones over and over again...I read to him about 3 times a day. He loves it.

He is losing a little weight. Less chubby, for sure....His face is thinning out, and he looks more and more like a little boy now.

I took him to the doctor today to make sure he didn't have another ear infection, but it turns out it is teething. It is really hard to tell the difference. He gets a temperature, pull his ears, is fussy, doesn't sleep well...etc...All the same symptoms pretty much.

Sasha and Sofia are still his favorite people...That's right, people....because that is what they think they are. He waves at them and drops them food from the highchair. He loves it when he is lucky enough to get a kiss from Sasha. It is his favorite thing.

His laugh is turning into a Ha-Ha, rather than a baby giggle. It is really cute.

"Cheetos" is still his favorite food....(Oliver, when you read this, you were not actually eating Cheetos. That is what Ted and Elyse call them....They are little crunchy Gerber snack. Basically, they are expensive air). He knows what container they come out of, and will "ask" for them. Yogurt melts and cheese are close 2nds. Bananas are right up there, along with yogurt.

That's all for now. Adios.

One more First...

...Forgot this one, but he is now pulling himself up on furniture...Let the fun begin!

More Firsts!

Wow. Well, we have more firsts to report!

1.) Oliver saw snow for the first time today! Did he enjoy it? Was it all that it was cracked up to be? Don't think so. He was more interested in my water bottle, and figuring how to get it into his mouth.

2.) Oliver is getting his "First Year Molars" in. So much for the first year part. Actually, most babies get them around 14 months....Not at our house!

He is definitely in a little pain. It looks like they are both coming in at the same time, but it seems to be his right side that is bothering him a little bit more.

3.) He had a little turkey, cheddar cheese and corn tortilla for lunch with Mommy! I didn't know how well the corn tortilla was going to go over, but it was a hit!

4.) Most importantly, we now have a crawler on our hands. Last night he took his first coordinated steps crawling. He was sooooo excited! He is one proud baby!

Ok guys, got to go break up the flirting session going on right now between Oliver and Sasha...What a flirt!

Thanksgiving At The Flagg's

What a Trip! Oliver met so many people! He met Susie and Monte, his Great Godparents, and Great Grandma's Ann and Barbara. Oliver also met Linda, Rhina, Karla, Toni, Isabel, Mark, Kathy and Lucas, along with Jared, Brian, Michael, Kevin, Deb, Amy, Elyse, Ted and Baby Malley!

Oliver did pretty well with all of the new people except, for some reason, he had some major stranger anxiety at the Flagg Christmas. I think it was just too many new people all at once!

Oliver had a lot of fun with his Grandpa, Grandma and GodAunt. Grandma put on Oliver's first tie ever...lots more to come later!! Oliver spent a lot of time terrorizing their cats, Socks, Dewster and Sprinkles (aka Sparkles). Grandma borrowed lots of toys from Isabel for Oliver to play with. He had his own little play area in the living room just for him!

Oliver also got some breaks from Mommy and Daddy. Grandma and Grandpa babysat and gave him a bath, so his parents could go see the movie The Blind Side with GodAunt Laura and Jared. What a great movie!

Oliver decided he wanted to take a little day visit to Grandpa's office to see where he goes to work everyday. He met Linda, Grandpa's secretary, and asked her for tips on her impressive typing skills.

Oliver had his first taste of Turkey, Lasagna, Stuffing, and Green Bean Casserole. He thought the lasagna was yummy. He is slowly, but surely getting used to real food!

Susie and Monte greeted us at the airport. We had no idea they were coming and we were so excited to see them. They got to meet Oliver for the first time, and feel the burn in their arms from holding Oliver's 29 pound body! Oliver opened his first presents ever at Susie and Monte's house. Of course, he loved ripping open the paper and playing with the bows. Susie set up a full length mirror for Oliver on the floor, which was much appreciated by Oliver.

Oliver did well both flights back to Texas. He was thrilled to see the doggies, and it did not take him long to lunge at both of them. He's been growled at by Sofia twice already since we've been back.

We are off to go run errands in the rain!

Talk to you soon.

FIRSTS...

Ok. Well, we've had a lot of firsts lately. Oliver started saying Da-Da a few weeks ago. It is cute, but the poor baby has no idea what he is saying. He just babbles it, a few here. Today he started talking about his Ba-Ba in the car. He was telling me ALL about it....So, I've caught on...Dad comes first, then food.

He also started getting up on his hands and knees and rocking about 3 weeks ago. It is pretty cute. Crawling should be right around the corner!

We just got back from Peoria this weekend. Oliver ventured to a pumpkin patch and Wrigley Field, which were both firsts for him. It was nice to put him down in the grass and not worry about crazy fire ants all over the place!

He is definitely picking up foods with his thumb and forefinger. It is great, because I can sit him in his highchair (where he can see me in the kitchen) and get things done. He just works on his coordination with his fingers.

Oliver also is going through the "separation anxiety" phase. I've read that it is a good thing...It shows that they have a good relationship with you and trust you. So, that seems like a good thing, although I think Adam might beg to differ when he sees the house when he gets home! It's hard to get things done with a baby on your hip!

We are getting packed to go back to Iowa for Thanksgiving. Can't wait. It will be great to spend time with everyone and introduce Oliver to all the relatives and Susie and Monte. We are so excited!

Well, I've got a lot to do tonight, so I better get going.

See everyone soon!

Lots of Cuddles

Oliver is so into cuddling. He is my little snuggler, not to be confused with smuggler. Before he takes naps, he loves to get in a quick snuggle with a blankie while watching some cartoons. He loves to burrow his head into our shoulder/neck area. He is so special. I hope this stage lasts awhile, because it is so special.

He still loves laying in his crib in the morning and having a little chat with himself. He loves hearing his voice fluctuate. His new thing is listening to himself making gurgle noises. It sounds like he is gargling with Listerine several times a day. While he is doing this, he usually tries to make eye contact and get your attention, and he has the most serious look on his face, like he is telling you something top secret. We keep lots of secrets!

He is SUCH a little ham. Anytime we are in public, he tries to get everyone's attention. This is usually done by flashing a big smile, giggling and a little flirting. He is a big hit with the ladies and especially anyone over the age of 70. 70 and up is usually his target zone.

We've been in Peoria for a few days. Oliver is getting to experience the Fall weather first hand. We took him to Tanner's, an apple orchard and pumpkin patch. It was so much fun. I think we might take him back, if the weather is nice enough. Oliver loved it. We got pictures of him sitting next to some pumpkins, hanging with Mickey and Minnie and sitting in the Choo Choo Train....And as you can imagine, he drew in quite the crowd. Grandparents were flocking to him like he was their own. He got lots of compliments on his big blue eyes, his size and of course his hair (his specialty).

Oliver weighs 27.5 pounds now. He looks a little chubby, but I think he is just a solid little boy. He is eating more solids now, and less milk. It is a little sad! He is growing up, and soon he will be eating table food! Maybe a little turkey on Thanksgiving?? I've been giving him Gerber puffs before he eats, so he can learn to use his pincer grasp. This is when they pick up small objects with their thumb and index finger. He hasn't quite mastered this skill, but he can do it.

We just met Oliver's 8th tooth last week. It is just starting to peek through. It's on his bottom left, next to his two middle teeth.

Some of Oliver's new favorite toys are water bottles, measuring cups, spatulas, crawling balls, and buttons. He will attack buttons, anywhere, anytime. He also loves playing pattycake. He knows the tune and he will actually start moving his arms around on his own. This is a favorite he plays with Grandpa Kevin. He's also discovered his tongue. He loves sticking out his tongue and playing with it with his hands. He'll also use it to draw in onlookers.

Basically, he's a ham for the camera and others. This is the biggest change I've noticed in him this month.

We love our little man!!

Such a Big Boy

Oliver is just growing up right before our eyes. He is sooo close to crawling. Adam said he saw him sit up this morning all by himself! I haven't seen it yet, but I can't wait.

Oliver has been such a big help on walks. He has been holding Sofia's leash for me. It really helps, because Sofia has the tendency to walk in front of the stroller and I'm always afraid she is going to get run over. When Oliver holds the leash, she has less slack to get in front of the stroller. The weather has been so beautiful. It is such a joy to get the four of us out for a walk!

He has a little cold right now...so do I. I have no idea which came first...the chicken or the egg! That's ok though, I'd rather know what he feels like so I can better help him through it! He mainly just has a runny nose and congestion. Nothing too serious.

He still loves his baths. I give him one every night before he goes to bed. When he gets a case of the cranks, it seems to be the only thing that will soothe him before his bedtime....And he really enjoys it! He loves playing with the bubbles in the bath...And yes, he tries to eat them also. He loves to grab the faucet where the water comes out. The running water seems to be calming for him.

He seems to be close to waving. It is hard to tell though, because he manipulates every toy by batting at it with his hand...His new toy is his tongue. He bats at his tongue when there are no toys to play with.

Oliver loves destroying the plastic tiles that we have set up on the tile floor. If I leave the room to do something, when I come back I find several tiles pulled apart and thrown across the play area....And one of them is usually in his mouth, of course.

I noticed yesterday that Oliver has a new tooth. That makes three teethies on the bottom. No wonder, he has been dripping wet like a faucet for a few weeks now. That means the tooth on the opposite side should be coming through in the next week or so. Then he will have eight teethies.

Well, I think Oliver is waking, so I better go....

He's Everywhere

Oliver is officially going everywhere. He practically tries to jump out of our arms when we hold him. He twists and turns to try to get whatever it is that catches his curiosity.

He knows now that there is something in his sippy cup. He just lets the water dribble down his chin, but he loves chewing on the lid. I'm avoiding giving him juice for awhile, because they don't get that much nutrition out of it...usually just vitamin C and a heck of a lot of calories...

We stopped in to see Daddy today at the office. Oliver ate the newspaper and socialized with Laurie. Oliver was happy to see Daddy in the middle of the day and catch up with Laurie.

So, he's always loved pulling on everyone's hair, but now he's caught on to the fact that I will let out a shriek, so he laughs when he gets a handful of my hair. He thinks it's hilarious.

He still loves trying to eat water bottles. After "we" get done working out, I can always get rid of a case of the cranks by handing him my water bottle.

Oliver is getting closer to crawling everyday. I bet he'll be crawling by Thanksgiving!

See you all soon!

My Little Helper

On our walk today, Oliver helped me pull in Sofia. Sofia and Sasha were walking next to Oliver's stroller and Oliver grabbed Sofia's leash and helped me walk Sofia. I'd love to say that he knew he was helping me, but he was really just trying to eat the leash.

Oliver is starting to become afraid of some noises and things that he was immune to before. He will look back at me and look at my expression to see what reaction he should have. It is pretty cute.

He is also trying to feed himself. I have to give him a spoon to hold and stick in his mouth while I feed him with a different one....or he gets very grumpy.

He still loves to be held upside down! Animal noises, peek-a-boo and the puppies are still his favorites. Oliver also likes his books, but he gets frustrated when he can't fit them into his mouth.

That's all for now!

Steady 25

Well, I did weigh him the other day, and he is still 25 pounds. Maybe he is leveling off....probably a good thing for him and my back.

I took in some "samples" to the lab yesterday, so we should find out early next week if he is finished with the salmonella. More than likely, he is finished with it, but the tests are just there to double-check.

Oliver and I went to the Domain (outdoor mall) today to walk around and get out of the house. It was like "mommy's day out" times a million!! There had to be 30 or so strollers walking around. I think we all had the same idea. The Domain = coffee + excercise + free entertainment for baby and mom.

Oliver has been sleeping great for the past month or so. He usually falls asleep anywhere from 8 to 9 and sleeps in until 7-8 a.m. His nap schedule usually consists of a half hour in the morning and a two hour nap in the late afternoon. Yay! I never thought I'd be having this conversation. When your child doesn't sleep well, you think it is your parenting, but the truth is, it just takes some time. But they sure make a lot of money off baby sleep books!

Oliver is creeping around on the floor. If there is something he wants, he'll find out a way to get it. No crawling yet, just scooting. I'm still waiting for that belly to get off the floor.

The dogs are doing well. I wish I could give them more attention. Oliver grabbed Sasha with BOTH HANDS and dragged her across the couch...poor pups! Sofia stays clear of him. Sasha is learning.

David Allison is in town for Austin City Limits! We might try to meet him for breakfast or lunch. Adam got a weekend pass, so he'll get to spend some time with David while he is in town. Pearl Jam is playing on Sunday!

Oliver is getting close to the age where he can start eating finger foods. I'm so excited for stage! he grabs the spoon a lot while I feed him, but it is usually just to gum the spoon and make a mess. Right now, he is eating cereal and fruit in the morning and veggies, fruit and a little meat at night. He is taking 4/5 feedings of milk in between. Although, right now he is refusing to drink a lot, because it hurts his teeth to suck when he is teething. He must have some more on the way!

Got to go clean those bottles!

Adios.

MMMmmmmm Veggies!!

Superman!!

6 Teethies!

Well, it's official. Oliver has 6 teeth. 4 on the top and 2 on the bottom. He is making the funniest faces now, because he keeps playing with his new found teeth.

I'm amazed at how quickly he keeps developing into a little person. He is really starting to understand feelings. You can tell by the look on his face when he reacts to my facial expressions.

Grandpa Kevin got Oliver some big animal puppets, and boy does he love them. I was attacking him with them today and he was giggling up a storm. Maybe a new favorite toy?

Grandma Terri and Grandpa Kevin just left yesterday. We had lots of fun. We even took Oliver to the outlet mall in San Marcos. He had a good time, and learned how to find a good bargain. We taught him to always shop the sale rack first!! Shopping 101! Shopping 210 will start after his first birthday.

He is really trying to move around now. He will get halfway across the room by rolling and inching around. We really have to watch him now. So long to Oliver staying in one place. He can't be trusted!

We put Oliver in his Halloween costume tonight and took some pictures doing his Superman pose. He looked so cute with his little red cape on.

I gave him some meat for the first time yesterday. I just used the Gerber meat, but it was so funny to see his face. I made a promise to taste everything that he eats, so I could feel his pain. It tasted and smelled pretty awful. I just about gagged. For the record, pureed turkey tastes way worse than pureed green beans or peas. Sorry Oliver, but I can't keep you a vegetarian forever.

We went to Target today, for our big outing of the day. It's sad I know...but I get really excited when I save up my baby food coupons. It gives me a reasonable excuse to get out of the house with him and go stock up on baby food! Anyways, Oliver made lots of friends. He flirted with 3 different sets of people who just thought he was adorable. He was all smiles to a couple and roped them in to play with him for awhile. They were grandparents to some babies in Dallas and Colorado. We chatted about how difficult it is to live away from family, so I hear your pain grandparents! We are thinking about you!

Oliver chomped on my fingers the other day, and boy does it hurt. Beware of the teethies!

I'm going to post some pictures for you guys and call it a night!

Little Man on the Computer

So, Oliver is actually watching me type this right now....As you already know, Oliver loves looking at the computer screen and playing with the remote. These are two of his favorite activities. A third would be mouthing my cell phone!

Oliver is fully recovered from his bout with salmonella. Yay! He has a doctor's appointment in another week, and we will check to make sure everything is running smoothly in that cute body.

His personality is really shining through. He loves to laugh and explore on his own. He will let you know when he wants a change. He also has developed an unpleasant reaction everytime we place him on his changing table. It involves sobbing or any noise that will get some pity!

Grandma Terri has been in town for a little over a week and Grandpa Kevin is coming in town this week! We took Oliver to the Zoo last week. Now he has been to 3 different Zoos. We can't wait until he enjoys it as much as we do, but he sure enjoys looking at the fences that cage the animals! We did have a lion growl at us last week...Mommy was frightened and Oliver wasn't...go figure!

Ok...got to go grab him!

Sick Boy!

Our poor, poor little man. Oliver was in and out of Dell Children's Hospital starting September 5th. We took Oliver to the ER on Saturday, around 2 p.m. after we noticed a significant increase in his temperature and we suspected he was having febrile seizures. It was very scary. At this point, he was only having them every 5 minutes or so. We stayed in the ER until 6 p.m. or so. When we left his temperature was back down to 100 degrees.

We headed back to the hospital at 4 a.m. on Sunday after his febrile seizures started again. At this point, they were happening every 15 seconds or so. When we got to the ER his temperature was 105 degrees. They ran several tests on him, including x-rays, blood tests and a stool culture.

We were admitted to the Neuro section of the hospital around 2 p.m. on Sunday and left around 1 p.m. on Monday (Labor Day). It was a scary weekend, but we are so glad our little one is better.

We love you little man.

Getting Settled...

We got back from Chicago Sunday afternoon. You did well on the plane again...no outbursts...You were fascinated with the four month old baby girl sitting across the aisle from you. Although, you weren't pleased when she woke you up from your nap. She didn't like the flight, and decided she wanted to let everyone know it.

When we got home, you were SO excited to see the pups. I set you down on the floor and you immediately started giggling and smiling like crazy. You definitely missed them, and they missed you. They came up and gave you lots of kissies right away.

We officially packed away the swing and bouncy chair, as the weight limit is 25 pounds. I thought it was a good time to say Adios to some of your favorites after you were used to not having them in Illinois. You are taking all your naps, except for the occasional nap with mommy, in your crib. You look so cute in there sleeping. Mom peeks at you all the time on the video monitor...possibly one of the best baby inventions ever.

You went to our small group meeting with us last night. You loved being the center of attention. We sat you in the middle of our circle and you pretty much entertained yourself for a good hour. You loved seeing your baby friend, Rowan. He is 11 months, so he has a little jumpstart on you.

Got to Go! Toodles.

Mom

Peoria/Chicago

Little Man was on the go again! You just got back a few days ago from visiting Grandpa Kevin and Grandma Terri in Illinois. We spent some time in Peoria, where you visited Grandpa's work...No one could believe how big you've gotten since they saw you last. Grandpa was very proud to show you off to his friends and co-workers. You met some of Mom and Grandma's friends like Christine, Vickie and Joanne Mooney. You were excited to meet the new strangers and handled yourself very well around everyone new.

We spent some time with Priscilla's kids, Gabe and Grace. You loved watching them play. I can tell you really love being around other kids now. I fed you your supper there and you got it all over your face, hair and pretty much your whole body.

You tried a few new foods while you were in Peoria. You tried carrots, green beans, squash and sweet potato. You didn't mind any new flavors, with the exception of green beans...I think you'd like to live without those for the time being.

You experienced a clam bake while you were in Peoria...You could care less about the clams. You just wanted to watch the people.

Also, you started sitting up on your own in Peoria! Yay, Oliver!!

We spent the last part of our trip in Chicago Grandma/Grandpa's condo. You did well, considering the small space that we were staying in. You slept on a blow-up matress with Mom and Dad (we rotated nights). You are quite the mover in your sleep! What a wiggle worm. You usually sleep pretty well the first few 4/5 hours or so, then you get the wiggles.

You met someone famous our last night in Chicago, but Mom can't remember his name right now. He is a billionaire that tried to buy the Cubs. He started speaking to us...about you actually. He commented on your cool stroller. Then he asked about how many drinks you were having and how many girls you were trying to pick- up. Of course, mom had no idea he was famous, just thought it was another adoring fan of her son!

We took you shopping and to a pet store filled with aquariums. We got so many pictures of you on Grandpa's shoulders. You loved being face to face with those fishies. Maybe we will get you a fishy in your future???

Dad was happy, because he got to go to three Cubs games. Mom even went with him to one! They sat in the bleachers and had a blast! We saw WOO WOO...We can tell you about him later...ask Dad.

Love you cutie.

Mom

Flagg Family

Oliver, you are a popular little man! As Daddy said, Grandpa Jeff, Grandma Cindy and GodAunt Laura all came to see you about a week after we got back from Aruba. Dad filled you in on the beginning of their trip, I'll fill you in on the rest of the week.

Your Grandparents babysat you while Daddy and Mommy went out for a date...They fed you at your highchair, gave you bottles and put you to bed. They were amazed at how big you are. I think you wore out everyone's arms, weighing in at about 23 pounds while they were here.

You were such a trooper. We took you furniture shopping at Four Hands, Mom's favorite furniture place to get good deals and out to eat at Five Guys Burgers and Fries...and while you wanted to eat everything we were eating, you got a lousy bottle.

You surprised us all with a few crazy diapers, but I think you got Grandpa Jeff pretty good with an award-winning diaper a few days before they left. You more than made up for it with your cute giggles and laid-back personality.

We love you Cutie Pie!

Mom

Aruba

Oliver, mommy has been very busy and has a lot of events I need to go back and record for you.

First of all, you took your first international trip in July when you were 5 1/2 months old. You experienced the ocean and the pool for the first time. You absolutely loved both, but you especially took interest in the ocean. Grandma Terri carried you around in the water for an hour, and you just loved it. The water temperature didn't bother you at all. We put you in a little blue float in the pool and you could have cared less about what was going on around you as long as you had your float toys to stick in your mouth. You had more fun being pushed around with Grandpa Kevin and Daddy, rather than with Grandma Terri and Mom. They were definitely more entertaining for you. At the end of the trip, you started to show symptoms of a virus, which the doctor said was most likely from the pool...So, no more pools for awhile! Although, I just got a little blow up pool for our yard that we'll have to try out soon...

You went on lots of walks and impressed many islanders with your size and cuteness. You slept with the Grandparents, and gave them a pretty easy time. Although, they said you cried a few times in your sleep, which is so cute. Mom and Dad got some serious sleep!

We got some great pictures of you. Some of the last pictures before you got your first haircut.

You did very well on the plane, and slept most of the way. It was a breeze flying with you with Daddy. He was a big help. You flirted with many on the plane, and impressed all the people that sat around you on the plane.

You got to see your Great Grandma for one day while you were there, and she thought you were a special little guy. She got a kick out of you in your Body Glove surf suit!

You're a good little traveler. Love you lots.

Fam' in town to see Oliveras

What a busy weekend for little Oliver and the Flagg family. Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market and Chuy's and then Brooke and I went to a wedding on Saturday night. Today we were going to go to church, but then we pulled an audible and drove 45 minutes to The Salt Lick (one of the top 10 barbecue restaurants in the US - according to CNN). We had a great meal in Driftwood and then drove to Wimberly and saw "the premier glass art creation place in the Southwest". Then we drove over to San Marcos and went up I-35 to Buda and we stopped at Buda. Grandpa Jeff and Grandma Cindy bought a fish feeder for their pond and their small fish.
We've been watching the TV show, "Forensic Files" a lot and right now, in preparation for Laura's wedding, we are watching "License to Wed" right now!
We will fill you in on more very soon! Though on a sad note, Laura leaves us all-too-soon; tomorrow at 8 am.

Poor Pups!!

Ok, so one more thing! I was feeding Oliver today, and I looked down and he had quite the grip on Sasha's ear!!! Poor thing. She just sat there and didn't make a peep, unlike Sofia who yelped when he grabbed her hair. Cute pups!!

Love Of Our Life!

Besides each other, Adam and I know that Oliver is the best thing that's ever happened to us. We are so blessed to have him. We've really started having a blast with him the last month or so. At 4 months, he started to really try to communicate with his mommy and daddy. I can't wait to know him at 6 months, 1 year...even a teenager?!? I've also noticed things running a lot smoother since I've been able to get more sleep. It's great to have some solid blocks of sleep. It really helps me to feel human, and ultimately a better wife and mom.

I just wanted to post this, so Oliver can read this someday and know what he meant to us at such an early age.

P.S.--Oliver rolled over again today! That is two days in a row of rolling from his back to his tummy (his first time from back to tummy was yesterday). He was playing under his little gym again and I went into the kitchen. When I came back, he was quietly on his tummy. I called out his name and started cheering and he giggled, like he knew he just did something really cool.

I know I'm cute.

I'm a spitting image of my father!!!

I love reaching for my toys with my hands and my feet!

At the doctor's office, Pre Shots!!! Someone Save Me!

Good Morning Oliver!!

Oliver slept pretty well last night....so did mom! He slept from about 8:30 until 2 and then 2:30 until 6:30, then we took a nap together after that, so we are one rested team around here! That is a first!

I spoke with the doctor's office yesterday and they told me to go ahead with Gerber 1st foods! I'm glad they suggested this, because he was getting a little constipated by the rice cereal. I think he was having some tummy aches, so mixing in a few tablespoons of banana will help! It is so fun feeding him his solids. I gave him a little banana last night and his face was priceless. He scrunched up his face and then started kicking his right leg and making grunting noises. He seemed like he liked it, but wasn't quite sure what to do with it, so he spit it out. In a few weeks, he'll start with veggie purees like peas and green beans....that should be interesting.

I just weighed him this morning and he is 21.5 pounds. Believe it or not, he seems to be thinning out a little bit. He must be growing again, because he weighs a ton but the rest of his body doesn't look "fat." He just looks a little chubby, especially in his face.

So, I am the happiest mom ever, because we just got in Oliver's baby carrier. We searched long and hard for a good one that was priced well. It is crazy, but most of them top out at 25 pounds, which really means about 22 pounds....Obviously, that will never work for our large babies, except for the first few months. We found one that can hold them until 90 pounds (believe me, I won't be carrying him around at 90 pounds, but it is reassurance that it will last awhile). Adam looks really funny in it, because we ordered the discontinued model off ebay to get 30% off, and it just happened to be a hawaiian theme with green palm trees!!!! It sounds worse than it looks. I kind of like it, actually. It looks so funny on Adam, because if you don't look closely it just looks like large green flowers!! We will definitely send pictures. We are relieved to have this, because Oliver has grown out of his infant car seat that most babies can be in for a year/18 months (you can carry him around in it). I wasn't quite sure how I was going to handle running errands with shopping carts, because he isn't old enough to sit up in the front of the cart, and it would be pretty difficult to carry him around while I pick up things. Most mom's use their infant carrier, but since he's outgrown it isn't possible!

His hair seems to be growing in pretty blonde. He still has a lot of long dark hair from when he was born, so that offsets the new blonde hair.

He rolled over from his back to his tummy today. That is a first! All of a sudden I looked down and he was on his back. I think he was really confused, like "how the heck did I do that?"

His two bottom teeth are so adorable. They are mini and cute. He must be working on those top ones, because he is like a faucet again. The front of his shirt is always getting wet. The bibs help, but I am nervous to let him fall asleep in them, since if he rolled over they can suffocate him....I know I'm being paronoid, but better safe than sorry.

We leave for Aruba early Sunday! I think our flight is at 7 in the morning!! Morning flights always work out best for us, because he naps a lot in the early morning afternoon so he should sleep on the flight.....Keep your fingers crossed!!

We can't wait to have the Flaggs visit in less than a month! Laura just found out she is going to be able to visit also! It will be a blast. I can't wait for them to see what he is up to.

We are just so blessed that we have a healthy baby boy. Friends of my parents have a new grandson (the same age as Oliver) that has a lot of health problems (cleft lip and heart issues). He is constantly going in for surgery, and has probably been in the hospital more than at home. His parents are our age. When I read their blog, it just sounds so awful. They could really use some prayers. It really helps to put things into perspective, when I worry when I hear him coughing/not sleeping well.

Well, little O is still sleeping, so that is my cue to get in the shower while I have the chance.

Thanks for all the support and if anyone wants to video chat before we go on Sunday, we can do it on Friday night (before 8) or Saturday afternoon sometime.

Take Care!

Pearly Whites

Well, it's official. Oliver has two very cute bottom teeth. He had a week or two of being very grumpy in order to sprout such cute teeth. They are tiny, but they can be seen by video chat. He is working on his second batch as we speak. I can see them pushing through, but I think they still have another week or two. Hopefully they break through before we go to Aruba, otherwise the whole plane will hear about it!

He has also been playing with his feet like crazy. Each time it is his mission to get one or both in his mouth, which is only successful about 5% of the time.

He started eating cereal after his 4 month check-up. It really helps his acid reflux. In fact, he was too tired to eat it last night, and he has been spitting up quite a bit already today. Oliver has experimented with many different types of cereal, with his favorite being banana....It's been proven to cure "fussy baby syndrome." Others that he has tried so far are barley, apple, oatmeal (helps to keep him regular!!...a good thing and a bad thing!!) and plain rice cereal. The doctor said we can start mixing in a little Gerber food or mashed banana/applesauce, but we are taking our time with the cereal.

Oliver took revenge against Sofia last week, and gave her a good tug on her hair. He said it was payback for all of the times she's barked in the middle of his chocolate milk dreams. I think it is about that time that the tables are starting to turn...or as Michael Scott says "the turn tables..."

Oliver loves to grab his pacifier out of his mouth and throw it behind hard to reach places. He threw two behind his crib at 4 a.m. this morning! Adam checked the pacifier inventory and found 9 behind his crib....sneaky little guy.

At Oliver's 4 month check-up he was 95% on height and above 95% on weight, weighing in at a whopping 20 pounds. The doctor called Oliver a "chart topper" and said he has a very easy-going personality. Oliver did a good job at sitting quietly while the doctor was talking. I don't think he was trying to be polite, but more like he was interested in the new entertainment. Oliver doesn't have to go back to the doctor until 6 months.

Oliver has been losing his hair for the past month or so. He still has a lot of hair up there, but it is not as dense as it used to be. It seems to be lightening up, also. I keep thinking it is going to turn to Adam's color, but we'll see.

That's about it. I'm going to run and get a shower, while he is still sleeping!

Take Care.

He Found His Hands

Yes, that's right. Oliver found his hands and he is spends minutes gazing at them. He holds them straight out in front of him observing their movements. He's also started to lift his feet to his tummy when he's on his back. I have a feeling he is about to start rolling from his back to his tummy...

The cheeks are rapidly expanding. I don't know how he can have any more room in his mouth! He's getting cuter everyday.

GODAUNT Laura is leaving tomorrow!

GodAunt Laura is leaving tomorrow and we are all sad. We've all had a fun time with her and Oliver has had a great time getting to know his GodAunt.

Baby Oliver is known for wounding his victims with a leaky diaper, "fecal matter" or an uncovered stream. Laura got hit the first day she was spending time with him. After showering and putting on a nice outfit (which he doesn't see that often from Momma), he knew he had to strike. Laura looked over at me and in a shocked voice said something like, "I think I'm wet." At that point, Oliver knew he had struck his target. Laura was wet and his target was complete. Laura could now relax, because Oliver had broken her in. Oliver knows he has only a remaining few hours left to strike a second time....Will he do it? We will keep you posted...

More later on little man's plans to strike...

Mamma Brooke

Thursday, May 7, 2009

Ok guys, It is Mamma Brooke here. Long time, no posts...

Mr. Man is getting used to the boring life without Grandmas. He doesn't have any more excuses to skip any naps....Mom is boring.

I will say that he is growing fast. I just put him in some 9 month "Little Me" outfits 2 weeks ago, and they are pulling at his feet. His pants last a lot longer than the 1 piece onsie with footies, but those onsies are an essential part of his daily routine! Oh, the drama of baby life!

Oliver has been venturing out to take many walks in the good old stroller. However, he enjoys them much more when we go after 7 p.m. when it isn't so hot outside. Lately, he hasn't been outside much with the exception of the back porch, because it is so miserably muggy outside. They said that the heat index is 100, which is too hot for baby Oliver. He very quickly turns into Mr. Grumps in hot weather...The summer should be interesting.

He started putting his hand on the bottle with Grandma C. As of last night, he put both hands on the bottle the whole time. It was pretty cute. He has been holding his own weight for awhile now, but he started taking 5 or so steps when he was held up with Adam a few nights ago. He wants to walk...Hmmm, can I delay that a few more months please? Oh say, when he is sleeping through the night...It's got to be a give and take relationship here! Just kidding...The sooner he develops the better...and the more excercise mom gets.

His wrists, thighs and tummy are getting pretty chunky, but not as chunky as Adam was at this age. His cheeks were priceless! I weighed him this morning and he is weighing in at a whopping 15.5 lbs. He is getting heavy. Sculpted arms, here I come...I better take advantage of my new built in workout.

Oliver's voice is getting louder. He is making sounds of all varieties. He is definitely interacting more. He will smile the moment anyone talks to him or makes eye contant.

Well, that's it for now. A big thank you to Grandma C for coming down and helping with Baby O!

Monday, April 27, 2009

Grandma Flagg is in town

Grandma C is here and has already spent some quality time with Mr. O and she's only been here for 4 hours. We should call him a crazy teenager because he never wants to go to sleep and has been whining all the time. Not really sure what is going on, but it has not helped that he hasn't had a bowel movement since Thursday. Brooke bought some suppositories and we are hoping some of the rich brown stuff comes out soon. Currently, he has been in his swing for the past hour and he has been fighting sleep like Mike Tyson in a boxing match.
And he just went to sleep.....then the doorbell rang and we had a guest...woke up ....and now back to sleep.

Couple more pictures

Pictures Requested by Family

OK, so I am up and figuring things out, so here are some pictures for the family.

Up Early With The Little Man

He just doesn't want to sleep and it's the weekend, so here I am with Oliver downstairs. I put him in his favorite thing in the entire world. It is a battery-powered swing that you can clip him into and turn on the power and it will rock back-and-forth like "The Galleon" from Adventureland (not the movie, but the Altoona, Iowa amusement park). While rocking, it will play from a selection of at least 6 songs and/or outdoor noises like water or crickets. It also has a mobile that spins and a mirror above him, so he can just stare at himself. He's a cute little man and many times he will just conk out in it. In fact, many times it is the only way he will sleep.
I never been one for enjoying repetitive things in life or a routine, but it's hard not to smile seeing him having fun and me humming along with all of the songs it plays because I've already heard it a couple thousand times.
I thought "O" would be asleep by now, but he is just staring off into the distance and trying to fit his entire fist into his mouth to chew on. Well, that's all for now.

Mr. Man

Mr. Man has been on a serious eating spree lately...He's just eating and sleeping around the clock. (I like the sleeping part!!!) I've been able to do a lot of housework yesterday and today. It's been awhile since I've had a solid block to clean. He rolled over again today when he was having tummy time. He gets frustrated during tummy time, so I think he is just trying to get on his back. It is really funny, because after he rolls over he will just stare up at the ceiling in amazement like "what just happened here." He's also been social smiling the past few days. He is going to have a really cute smile. I can't wait to see it some more. He is also laughing in his sleep, which is pretty funny to watch. Grandma Terri is coming into town today, so Oliver got a bath this afternoon. He was lathered with baby lotion, just the way Grandma Terri likes him.

Oliver had a visit to the Pediatrician's office yesterday morning. His lungs are pretty much cleared up. At 5 weeks and 5 days, Oliver weighed in at 11 pounds and 3 ounces (85th percentile) and measured up to the 95th percentile in height.

Goals for Oliver: I am working towards the big move to his crib. The doctor suggested that I put him in his crib for naps during the day and continued letting him sleep in the "Pack 'N Play" in our room at night. This should make the transition smoother for all of us when he moves in his own room! Soon, (after about 3 months) we will be working on getting Oliver to self soothe, so he will be able to calm himself down by himself. Research shows that babies don't have the ability to calm themselves down on their own before 3-6 months...That is why we love the pacifier and rocker right now!

Ok...I've got to go tend to the little guy.

On the mend...

Ollie seems to be doing better. Resting easier, sneezing and coughing less and generally better. We are excited parents and can't wait for both Grandmas and Aunt Laura to visit in the next month!
Also, we are looking forward to Grandma Terri coming in so we can go on some dates and get some time away.

Saturday, March 21, 2009

We are at home today holding Oliver.  He has his first cold.  We are definitely the worried parents about the little guy's first cold.  Apparently, babies get between 5-6 of these before they are 1! Who Knew???

Oliver rolled over on Friday!!

On Oliver's one-month birthday, he rolled over for Brooke during the day. He was on his stomach on a blanket and Brooke came back and he was on his back! He's not supposed to do this so soon, but he's our strong little guy. This isn't totally unexpected since he tried to rollover at the doctor's office nearly 2 weeks ago. More updates to follow, bookmark our page @ oliverflagg.blogspot.com
